LEONA ESTHER-dip

(30"-MLaRe-4.5"-5"-DOR.) The picture above is good in color though the clarity of the picture is poor-it was my only slide that was even fair so it is being used here. Leona Esther is a person (almost family in law) whom I have known for many years and from whom I , in my just out of college years, rented a room. She was most kind to me and cooked some wonderful meals for me the year or so when I roomed and boarded there. She is now 93 and resides in Houston. I think it only fitting that such a beautiful flower be named for such a lovely person as Leona Esther Kaiser Cherry. The flowers are of excellent form and substance with heavy rounded sepals. The flowers are supported by very well branched scapes with three or more lateral branches as well as top branches. Flowers are fertile both ways. This very dormant plant is quite vigorous and will be a delight in most areas of the country. It came through our hottest summer in 135 years and did so beautifully. We recommend LEONA ESTHER for those of you interested in the "blue" color tones for hybridizing or to those who just like the color! This is a winner, and its release has been awaited for several years. You will love it.
