(24"-EMRe-5.5"-Ev) I was privileged to visit Elsie Spalding's garden
for about 33 years, and I have called those many visits a truly
"fantastic voyage" ! This voyage into the beauty of gorgeous daylilies
was made possible by Elsie's hand in hybridizing, and certainly our
world has been brightened greatly by her contributions. I thought the
voyage had ended until Jay and Judy Farquhar asked me to go to
a friend of Elsie's and see where Elsie had planted her last group of
seeds which had now come into flowering. It was like the grand
finale to the voyage -for there in front of us were again those unmistakable Spalding creations! Many were purchased and some
have been introduced over the years. FANTASTIC VOYAGE is indeed the concluding work of Spalding's that I will introduce. This seedling
was purchased and shared by the Farquhars and me and will be
simultaneously released for sale by both of us this fall.
The flower is approximately 5.75" in diameter. The lovely peach cream
Color of the flower is accented with a lavender purple eye that ends
Very abruptly on the throat side with a large rich green throat. The
Lavender purple color follows from the eye onto the petals and then
Changes to a moderate yellow edging around the petals. Flowers are
Round, ruffled, moderately recurved, and of good substance and carried on well branched scapes with very good bud count. FANTASTIC VOYAGE is fertile both ways and producing fabulous eyed and edged seedlings.
